My first thoughts about my Windows 8X by HTC as a Verizon Wireless Ambassador are mixed. But, keep in mind that I’ll be using this smartphone for three months so my opinions may change as I learn more about it.
My Likes:
Appearance – The Windows 8X looks spectacular! The blue color really stands out from other phones. It’s slim and can fit easily in my pocket.
Display – There is big difference from Windows 7 smart phone, which my daughter has. It’s larger and makes photos and videos look life-like. Not as large as the Samsung Galaxy S3 which I reviewed before, but it will do.
Individuality – I really like the tiles that I can pin to my home screen and the ability to change the size of them. The theme color choices (accent colors) are outstanding. I can switch from purple to green depending on my mood.
Friend Groups and Rooms – The ability to create groups and rooms rocks. I can keep up with a select number of people so it doesn’t get overwhelming. This is organization at its best. I like that I share events, notes, etc. with groups.
My Dislikes:
Apps – There are a lack of apps that I need as a blogger, especially social media apps. I miss Instagram and Hootsuite especially. The description of apps is lacking as well.
Photo Enhancer – It leaves a lot to be desired. I can’t crop photos or add frames, etc.
Shutting Down – I hope that I’ve got the settings wrong somehow, but I keep having to press the on/off button to get my display to show up. Annoying!
Battery Usage – I’m not happy about this at all. I do have the Battery Saver on, but the battery runs out too quickly even when I’m not using the Windows 8X. Of course, there are apps running in the background, but come on.
Expect more posts about this phone. Hopefully as I learn about more apps and other important information, my views will change.
Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Wireless Ambassador program and have been provided with a wireless device and three months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.
